IKN Getting Greener: 50 MW Solar Power Plant Worth IDR 900 Billion Becomes the Backbone of the New Capital's Electricity

IKN, December 3, 2025 – The Government's commitment to realizing the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) as a sustainable Forest City is reinforced by accelerating the development of green energy infrastructure. The 50 Megawatt (MW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS) project in IKN, with a massive investment value of around IDR 900 billion (approx. $58 million), is now positioned as the primary energy source (pioneer) supporting the electricity supply in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP).

This PLTS project is not just infrastructure; it is a tangible manifestation that IKN will operate based on the principle of 100% new and renewable energy (NRE).

The construction of the 50 MW IKN PLTS has shown significant progress since the groundbreaking ceremony by President Joko Widodo in November 2023.

Initial Phase Operation: PLN successfully commissioned Phase 1 of the PLTS with a capacity of 10 MW in March 2024. This initial capacity ensures that clean energy supply is already available to support operational and construction activities in IKN.

Emission Reduction: When fully operational, the PLTS, which is built on 80 hectares of land, is estimated to be able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 104,864 tons of CO2 per year. This figure emphasizes IKN's role as a national example in achieving the Net Zero Emission target.

The Head of the IKN Authority previously stated that the development of this PLTS is a key strategy to ensure energy security that is reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly in the Nation's Capital. In addition to solar power, the potential of other NRE sources, such as hydropower, will also be utilized to create a fully green, integrated electricity system.

With an investment of nearly one trillion Rupiah, the 50 MW IKN PLTS proves Indonesia's seriousness in building a future city that prioritizes sustainability and energy transformation.
