LEAKED RPP KEN, SOLAR PV SHARE WILL REACH 41% OF TOTAL NEW RENEWABLE ENERGY

LEAKED RPP KEN, SOLAR PV SHARE WILL REACH 41% OF TOTAL NEW RENEWABLE ENERGY

The National Energy Council (DEN) stated that the capacity of solar power plants (PLTS) is targeted to reach 41% of the total power generation capacity from new and renewable energy by 2060. This is outlined in the Revised Government Regulation on National Energy Policy (RPP KEN) that will be ratified.

The Secretary General of DEN, Djoko Siswanto, stated that solar power plants (PLTS) are the largest power generators that can support emission reductions by 2060. The capacity of PLTS is estimated to be around 131 gigawatts to 178 gigawatts by 2060.

However, Djoko stated that the installed capacity of solar power plants (PLTS) is still small at present. By the end of 2023, the installed capacity of PLTS in Indonesia for 2023 has only reached 589 megawatts. Therefore, the opportunity for developing PLTS towards net zero emissions is very significant.

To support solar power plants, he said, Indonesia already has a battery factory in Karawang with a capacity of 10 gigawatts. This battery factory will subsequently be developed to have a capacity of 20 gigawatts.

"Currently, a solar PV (solar panel) factory is also being built in Kendal with a capacity of 1 gigawatt peak and is already 90 percent complete," said Djoko at the Huawei product launch in Jakarta, Thursday (3/10).

RPP KEN TO BE PASSED THIS MONTH

He said that the RPP KEN is only waiting for the signature of President Joko Widodo, which is targeted to be passed before October 19, 2024.

"Currently, it is being circulated among the relevant ministers for their initials before being signed by the President. We hope President Jokowi can sign it before October 19," he said.

Djoko said that the KEN draft regulation encourages the significant use of green energy to reach 70% by the year 2060. Until now, the realization of the new renewable energy mix (EBT) has only reached 16.75%, which is still below the target set by the Indonesian Government of 23% by 2025.
