Jakarta - PT PLN (Persero) reaffirms its commitment to providing efficient and affordable green energy. PLN's President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that PLN is also striving to drive national economic growth by up to 8%. In line with this, PT PLN (Persero) is participating in the 29th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP29) held from November 11-22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
"This commitment reflects Indonesia's ambition to create a balance between economic progress and environmental sustainability through energy transformation," said Darmawan in his written statement on Sunday (10/11/2024).
Darmawan emphasized the importance of synergy and collaboration in the fields of investment, technology, and regulation to accelerate the development of renewable energy in Indonesia. According to Darmawan, the development of renewable energy will maximize the potential of domestic energy, support the development of downstream industries, and create more job opportunities.
"PLN continues to commit to strengthening national capacity in creating jobs, alleviating poverty, and preserving environmental sustainability. With strong synergy, we are optimistic that Indonesia can become a leader in the clean energy transition in this region," said Darmawan.
For your information, PT PLN has added 75% of its power generation capacity based on new renewable energy (EBT) for the year 2040. To accelerate this target, PLN needs to build a transmission network capable of connecting clean energy sources located far from the current demand centers.
Therefore, at the COP29 event, PLN will invite global involvement in the development of electricity infrastructure in Indonesia, such as the construction of green power plants and the Green Enabling Super Grid transmission. This aims to optimize the renewable energy sources scattered across Indonesia to meet the growing electricity demand and support the growth of a clean energy-based economy.
"Climate change is a global issue that must be faced together. Therefore, PLN cannot bear this burden alone; the only way to tackle climate change is through collaboration," concluded Darmawan. (kil/kil)
